It’s always “failing to connect”. Use my remote start and it won't work. It's also possible this is disallowed as you mention though.
Toyota does not advertise this feature!! Try installing toyota remote connect on another phone if it still doesn't work you will have to call toyota again or go to the dealer to have them look at it. Definitely still some work to be done on the app.
